Manpower India has released the Manpower Employment Outlook Survey for the first quarter of 2006 revealing sustained positive hiring intentions by employers in India. The hiring pace in India continues to be the strongest of the 23 countries and territories surveyed this quarter, with a positive overall Net Employment Outlook of +27%. Even though this figure represents a decrease of 13 percentage points from the fourth quarter of 2005, the labor market remains extremely healthy. For the first time since the survey was launched in India, employers in the Finance, Insurance and Retail industry sector are the most optimistic, with a Net Employment Outlook of +32%.

Australia's tight jobs market is continuing to thaw with vacancies falling in the three months to November, however labour shortages still remain an issue. Data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed job vacancies in the November quarter slipped 3.8 per cent, seasonally adjusted. Over the year to November, job vacancies fell 3.5 per cent.

A group of 23 economists surveyed for BNA's annual Economic Outlook in the US found:
  • A gain of more than 2 million payroll jobs will lower the unemployment rate to 4.9 percent.
  • Hurricane rebuilding will boost construction and related employment during the first half of 2006.
  • Payroll growth will remain steady at 190,000 jobs per month in the first half, slowing to 173,000 in the last half of the year.

According to December's Execunet's Recruiters Confidence Index (RCI), a monthly survey of executive recruiters conducted by the leading executive job search and recruiting network, 70% are confident or very confident that the executive employment market will improve during the next six months. In the first six months of 2006, the executive search industry is expecting a 26% increase in the number of assignments received from corporate clients - a significant increase from the 17% rise in assignments reported for all of 2005.
